I’m still working through and editing a pile of old files. In the past few weeks I’ve added over 30 images of a mix of subjects, displaying wild turkey gobblers, nesting spur-winged plover, a kea trying to eat a car, a juvenile house mouse I found wandering around in a beech forest, and even a few flowers and a bug that I missed in earlier uploads.
I’ve just added some lovely photos of a New Zealand pipit to my gallery. I had been trying to photograph a pair of blue ducks, but they didn’t want to cooperate. So, I turned my attention to the pipit as it went about its business searching for insects around the big stream boulders and came away with some images I was rather pleased with. One of the keys to bird photography is being adaptable.
I’ve also added some photos of western weka, the first I have of this subspecies. Weka are great birds to watch, and as they are now rare throughout most of their former range, visiting one of the places where they are still relatively common was a treat. It was also interesting to see some people blatantly ignore the numerous signs asking people not to feed the birds!
I have a lot more image sorting and processing to catch up on, and hope to have lots more added to the site before too long.
You may have noticed I haven’t uploaded any new photos for few weeks. One of the main reasons is that I have been rebuilding the website, basically from scratch. Yes, it looks a lot like the old one, but there have been some big changes and upgrades behind it.
The main aim has been to make it faster and easier for you to find the nature photos you want, and one of the biggest changes is that photo categories are now sorted into more nested subcategories, and we are now set-up to reorganise things further as needed.
The strip of thumbnails under the main photo now allows you to quickly look for other, similar photos, without the need to go back to the thumbnail page. Check it out.
I’ve tidied up a lot of code, and spent a lot of time checking things and making sure it all validates. If you find something doesn’t quite seem right, make sure you are using the latest version of your browser (especially if you use Internet Explorer, with its notoriously poor handling of many web standards), and if it still seems wonky please let me know.
With that out of the way I’m looking forward to getting back to the backlog of RAW files that need editing, and with spring firmly asserting itself there are endless new wildlife and scenic photographs to make. Stay tuned.
