A good day to sit in front of a monitor, sorting though a huge backlog of images, and reworking some old favourites. The patterns in this photo of the Te Paki sand dunes inspired me to try a monochrome interpretation, and I&#8217;m pleased I did. You can see a <a href=\"\/gallery\/picture.php\/dune_14285\">larger version in my web gallery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I started with the optimised colour tiff file, then used a black &#038; white adjustment layer in Photoshop to produce the monochrome image while darkening the blue and cyan colours of the sky. A new curves adjustment layers was then used to further increase the contrast in the patterns, and another levels adjustment layer to tweak the black point.<\/p>\n<p>I like the result and will make a large print for my wall.
