They can be found right around the coast of New Zealand and southern parts of Australia, but despite their wide range and relative abundance, most people won&#8217;t have seen one alive because they come ashore on rocky coasts only under cover of darkness. I&#8217;ve added some new <a href=\"\/gallery\/index.php\/category\/little-penguin\">photos of little penguins<\/a> ashore at night. If you see photos of one these penguins out in the open during daylight, chances are there is something wrong with it.
