You can see them now in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neilfitzgeraldphoto.co.nz\/gallery\/index.php\/recent_pics\" title=\"recently added photos\">New Photos section of my web gallery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A prominent feature of Burgess Island is the lighthouse perched high on the summit of the island. It overlooks precipitous cliffs on one side, and on the other side degraded vegetation and the decaying remains of fences and buildings that give a glimpse of the life of early lighthouse keepers stationed on this remote island. Now free of all mammalian pests, Burgess Island is slowly regaining its cover of native vegetation, and native birds and animals are thriving again.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid\" alt=\"Burgess Island\" title=\"Burgess Island, Mokohinau Islands.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.neilfitzgeraldphoto.co.nz\/images\/Burgess-Island-16864.jpg\" \/><figcaption class=\"figure-caption\">After spending a bit of time on Burgess Island, one of the most interesting views was the one most fishers and recreational boaties see; from the water.
