Robust skinks are big, solidly built lizards (by New Zealands standards, at least). Hauraki skinks have been known by several other names in the past (including Town&#8217;s skink, and Mokohinau skink) while the scientific naming and classification was being established. Both species are now restricted to offshore islands free of  introduced mammalian predators which have decimated reptile populations on the mainland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"figure float-xs-left\"><a href=\"\/new\/2017\/robust-and-hauraki-skink-photos\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img blog-thumb\" alt=\"Robust and Hauraki skink photos\" title=\"Hauraki skink\" src=\"\/images\/Hauraki-skink-blog-21448.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>I&#8217;m still working on adding new photos to the gallery from the backlog that has formed over the past few years.
