Issue 110 of New Zealand Geographic will be in stores early next week. In it you’ll find a feature on the gumlands of Northland, illustrated with my photos. Author Mark Smale writes “Once, a vast kauri forest stood on the Aupouri Peninsula, letting organic matter and resin to the forest floor over eons. The June issue of New Zealand Gardener magazine is on the shelves and the cover shot is one of my popular tui photos. Tui are always a welcome garden visitor for their lovely and variable song, and stunning spring blossom makes kowhai one of our most popular native garden plants.
Issue 95 of New Zealand Geographic features an article on godwits—written by Denis Welch and photos by me.
The January – February 2009 issue of New Zealand Geographic is now out and the feature on godwits includes a dozen of my photos. Bar-tailed godwits / kuaka (Limosa lapponica) are the commonest Arctic migrant in NZ over the summer months, and they hold the record for the longest non-stop flight of any land bird.
