Fly trapped by sundew (2/12)

A stiletto fly (Anabarhynchus sp.; Therevid family) trapped by an alpine sundew. Therevid flies breed in highly specialised habitats and some species are believed to have very restricted distributions.
Sundews are a type of carnivorous plant that catch prey, like small insects, with sticky tipped tentacles. The trapped insect is pulled close to the leaf and digested to supplement the scarce nutrients of the poor soil they typically grow in.
